If scenic blue bays, wooded islands and spectacular beaches are your idea of fun, Croatia is your kind of holiday. What really sets Croatia apart is its distinctive island culture and its balance of magnificent architectural heritage, with a modern emphasis on beaches, music festivals, and nightlife.

Your first Croatian destination is Rijeka, where stunning architecture, cultural and historic monuments, excellent museums, and delicious seafood await. From Zadar, visit the cascading waterfalls in Krka National Park. Then it’s on to Croatia’s Inside Passage. The big ships don’t go here—all the better for unobstructed views of an ever-changing panorama including mountains, wooded islands, and rocky coasts.

An overnight and late-night stay are perfect for exploring Split’s Diocletian Palace and the great walled town of Dubrovnik—both UNESCO World Heritage Sites—while still giving you enough time to discover local flavours. Enjoy the many jaw-dropping sites of Hvar, and be sure to try a crisp white posip, since the city is considered one of the top winemaking regions in Croatia.

One more reason to love this voyage: It’s a convenient roundtrip from Venice, complete with an overnight stay at the end of your Croatian adventure. Includes 4 late nights and 2 overnights.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1 — Venice
Venice Mask

Venice Mask

Experience Venice, one of the most captivating—and romantic—cities in the world. Tour the city’s cobblestone streets and overarching bridges, or take to the water and explore the canals on a water taxi or gondola. As you make your way through the city, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to shop, sample delicious Veneto wines, or people watch in Piazza San Marco.

Day 2 — Rijeka
View of Rijeka city in Croatia

Rijeka is fascinating to explore. The Governor’s Palace offers grand views over the harbor and of the grand Hapsburg interiors inside. Next climb the 16th century Petar Kruzic Stairway to the top of Trsat hill to visit the Church of Our Lady. Finally, ferry to the islands around the bay: cycle around Kirk, then stop at Baska beach - beautiful sand, clear water and “ice cream stands galore.”

Day 3 — Zadar

Old meets new in beautiful Zadar. Walk quaint cobblestone streets from a bygone era that give way to modern marvels of architecture and technology. Escape the city and explore two national parks—Krka and Plitvice—both teeming with natural beauty. Afterwards, sample Maraschino, a traditional liqueur made from marasca cherries and produced in Zadar distilleries since the 16th century.

Day 4 to 5 — Split
Split, Croatia

Split, Croatia

Venture to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Diocletian’s Palace, which dates back to the 4th century. Let intuition be your guide as you spend the day meandering through the cobblestone streets. Wander down to the water’s edge and stroll along the Riva, the spectacular white marble-esque promenade. And if you do lose your bearings, one of the locals will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.

AZAMAZING EVENING - CELLO CONCERT AT MESTROVIC GALLERY

Relish the rich sounds of the cello at the Ivan Meštrovi's Gallery. An evening of ambient pleasure awaits in this magnificent art museum dedicated to the works of the eponymous 20th century sculptor. Originally conceived in the 1930s as a combination of family home, working studio and exhibit space, the Gallery is constructed after the architecture of the palaces of the Roman emperor Diocletian, who considered Split his summer playground. Experience the warm glow of illuminated sculptures on the lawn and indulge in welcome refreshments before the enveloping strains of the concert begin. Listen in rapture as acclaimed cellist Ana Rucner brings forth the resounding notes of her instrument. This exotic performance blends classical techniques with Croatia’s folkloric musical heritage and the contemporary stylings of the artist. A dramatist at heart, Ana’s performance is a riveting journey into an evening of enchantment.

Day 6 — Dubrovnik
castle, Dubrovnik, Croatia

From the moment you step beyond the stonewalls that protects Dubrovnik, you’ll understand what makes it so special. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is adorned with charming squares and centuries-old red-roofed buildings. Walk the walls for a spectacular view of the city, and if anything looks familiar, it’s probably because Dubrovnik is the home of King’s Landing on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Day 7 — Hvar Island

Known as the “Sunniest Place in Europe”, Hvar receives an average of 7.7 hours of sunshine per day. So sunbathing is a favorite pastime here, especially at the beaches of Dubovica and the Pakleni Islands. There are plenty more jaw-dropping sights to see here: lush olive groves, fruit orchards, fields of lavender, and dozens of vineyards, since Hvar is one of the top winemaking regions in Croatia.
