Mediterranean Medley

Billing itself as having the “most inclusive luxury cruise experience”, this Regent Seven Seas sailing promises all-balcony suites, free-flowing champagne and full-board fine dining, from steakhouse indulgences to wine-paired French tasting menus. However, it’s all about the destination. Between Venice’s floating wonders and Rome’s UNESCO treasures, you’ll take in the medieval charm of Croatia’s Split and Montenegro’s Kotor before heading off the beaten track to Albania’s Roman heritage and castle towns. Then, island hopping between the aristocratic palaces of Corfu and Sicily will see you end with the Amalfi Coast’s clifftop pastel towns. Each is brought to life by a fantastic array of included excursions, from wine tastings to classical performances.

Day 1 — UK to Venice
Venice

Venice

After enjoying your complimentary airport lounge access, fly out to Italy where an included transfer will see you aboard your luxury ship. After perhaps pausing to take in Venice’s canal-side charm, settle into your marbled suite for private-balcony views, along with an all-inclusive spread of fine dining. There’s everything from barista cafés, poolside grills and Italian pizzerias to lobster dinners, steakhouse indulgence and multi-course French delights. It all comes wine paired, with open bars serving up free-flowing champagne. Then, alongside the lectures and library, evening entertainment includes a casino, cigar-and-cognac club and full-scale theatre. If you’d rather keep active, there’s a jogging track and fully equipped gym, while the spa is equally impressive.

Day 2 — Split, Croatia
Split, Croatia

Split, Croatia

Heading over into Croatia, your first port of call is the walled town of Split. Here, you’ll begin your series of included excursions. While city tours showcase its UNESCO-listed Roman palaces, 4th-century cathedral and thousand-year-old Klis Fortress, there’s plenty of unique intrigue, too. There’s everything from wine and food tastings to ship-building tours and even a full appreciation of the region’s Game of Thrones sets. Whatever you choose, it’s all included and designed to get right to the heart of the destination, with Split’s heritage, both medieval and ancient, taking centre stage.

Sailing up the dramatic bay, you’ll arrive into Montenegro with Kotor – a terracotta-capped medieval maze capped by gorgeous mountains. Your included touring here will bring you among church spires, Venetian palaces and marble laneways that together form a true World Heritage jewel. There is also the included option to explore on a tuk-tuk, enjoy a cooking class or head inland to discover the country’s quaint villages and former royal capitals. The classical performance, paired with a seafood lunch and held at the Baroque Our Lady’s Temple, is always a favourite. You can even visit a working olive grove on a local family’s estate.

Stay: Seven Seas Voyager (Deluxe)

Day 4 — Durrës, Albania

The lesser-visited port of Durrës is the perfect introduction to coastal Albania. Yes, its beach stretches for 10km, but look closer and you’ll discover a superb archaeological museum and a fascinating collection of Byzantine and Roman history, including the likes of amphitheatres, public baths and aqueducts. It’s all brought to life by your included touring, which also take in next-door Tirana, the Albanian capital. It’s a brash collation of grand boulevards and socialist murals. Alternatively, you can choose between traditional castle towns in the mountains.

Stay: Seven Seas Voyager (Deluxe)

Day 5 — Corfu, Greece

The ancient Greeks, Italians and British have all laid claim to Corfu, something remembered by ancient watchtowers, Venetian architecture and, well, cricket. Of course, it’s all wrapped up in an island idyll of old-town charm and gorgeous beaches. Included excursions here range from olive oil and wine tasting to cave-grotto boat rides and a full-day appreciation of the city’s 19th-century aristocratic palaces. There’s even the option of visiting a self-reliant Byzantine monastery or spending the day on a farm to learn about rural Greek life.

Stay: Seven Seas Voyager (Deluxe)

Day 6 — Taormina, Sicily

The Ruins of Taormina Theater at Sunset

You’ll arrive back into Italy and Sicily with Taormina, whose hilltop perch commands spectacular views over Mt. Etna. It’s all taken in by the likes of public gardens, a Roman-style Greek theatre and the splendid 15th-century Palazzo Corvaja. While you might want to summit the famous volcano on an included excursion, there are also wine tastings and tours of the set locations of The Godfather.

Stay: Seven Seas Voyager (Deluxe)

Day 7 — Sorrento
Sorrento, Italy

Sorrento, Italy

Sorrento is the perfect introduction to the Amalfi Coast, where colourful houses and Roman vestiges perch high on clifftops, looking out over the glittering waters of the Bay of Naples to Mt. Vesuvius. Excursions take in the full spread of the riviera, from its spectacular roads that map the cragged coast to the quaint beach towns that tumble down green-sloped hills. There’s also the option to jump over to Capri, where Roman villas, gorgeous walks and scenic chairlifts showcase its immeasurable island beauty.

Stay: Seven Seas Voyager (Deluxe)

Day 8 — Civitavecchia (Rome)

You’ll end in Rome, where, after a final breakfast, an included transfer will see you to the airport for your flight home. However, we highly recommend extending your stay in the Italian capital, taking in its ancient heritage, Papal intrigue and spectacular gastronomy.
