AmaDara is the latest addition to the AmaWaterways fleet, with sleek lines and equally sleek, spacious cabins and suites, all with private balconies. The ship’s elegant public areas include two stylish restaurants serving delicious cuisine; an inviting lounge; a fitness room; hair salon; spa, and a refreshing Sun Deck swimming pool.
A trip down the Mekong is pleasure enough, but AmaDara adds some all of its own to the experience, with a pool, a swish spa, two restaurants serving authentic Vietnamese and Cambodian dishes, the sophisticated Saigon Lounge for pre-dinner cocktails. In addition every space has been designed to make the most of the ever-changing view along this river so lined with life, so there’s always something to entrance or entertain.
There’s a fair bit of entertainment onboard too, from folklore dances, musical performances, a piano player, cultural lectures and discussions and themed dinners. The in-depth excursions ashore are carefully planned, some to significant heritage sites and cities, including a trip on a junk in Halong Bay; others designed to experience local life, such as tri-shaw rides through smaller villages and visits to bustling markets.
Two restaurants serve both Western and Asian cuisine – the local chefs are skilled at both, and dish up extensive buffet breakfasts, several options at lunch, from light to substantial meals; and go all out at dinner, which is a multi-course extravaganza. The wine flows freely at lunch and dinner.
Regular musical performances and themed dinners are a feature of life onboard.
Cultural lectures and debates are frequently held; and the local excursions with knowledgeable guides offer a great insight into life in Vietnam and Cambodia.
The massage and beauty salon offers a good range of treatments; there is also a well-equipped fitness room.
As well as the entertainment provided onboard, AmaDara organise a wide range of excursions onshore, taking in key attractions and offering more unusual experiences in addition.
