Viking River Cruises launch two cruise ships
Viking River Cruises is moving into ocean cruising, and has placed an order for two new cruise ships, to be introduced in 2014 and 2015.
The new ships will be part of Viking Ocean Cruises, an affiliate of Viking River Cruises, and will accommodate 888 passengers, with 444 crew. They will be built at the St. Nazaire STX shipyard in France, commencing in September 2012, and will measure 230 metres in length.
The as yet un-named cruise ships will sail the Mediterranean and will be targeted at the British, Australian and American markets
Viking River Cruises currently operates 23 vessels in Europe, Asia and Egypt, and has a further six river ships under construction. It is understood the ocean vessels will similarly be designed with destination cruising in mind.
