Viking River Cruises announce Douro River Cruise

Commencing March 2013, Viking River Cruises have launched a river cruise vessel on a brand new cruise itinerary: River Douro, Portugal's River of Gold.

The new ship, Viking Douro, has been specially designed and built to sail on this delightful river, named the 'river of gold' for the quality of light that is prevalent. During the river cruise, guests will sample local Portuguese cuisine, wine and entertainment, whilst viewing steeply terraced vineyards, picturesque towns, castles, mansions and historic monasteries. The Douro is truly breathtaking and offers a wide range of scenery as it meanders through incredible valleys, past ancient vineyards and into bustling Portuguese towns brimming with culture.

Ports of call include historic Porto, the medieval city of Salamanca, a tour of the 15th century Jerónimos Monastery, plus a 2-night hotel stay in Lisbon.

The Viking Douro was built specifically to sail the Douro River.  Spacious and supremely comfortable with panoramic views, large staterooms with French balconies and 360 degree views from the public areas, guests can sit back and relax as they immerse themselves in the glorious scenery.

Fares include visits to UNESCO World Heritage sites, all excursions, on board meals and wine with lunch and dinner, offering guest exceptional value for money.
