Venice to Corfu on Oceania Riviera Day 2
Day 2 - Venice
I slept very well, probably the most comfortable bed that I have experienced on any cruise ship.
We went to the main dining room for breakfast and the menu offered all the usual breakfast items including two different fish dishes. It was all very fresh and hot and the coffee was topped up frequently. We left feeling well prepared for our day in Venice.
The ship provided a shuttle to the ’People Mover’ (a monorail train) which for 1 euro transfers passengers from the cruise terminal to the Piazza San Roma from where we took a waterbus down the main canal all the way to St Marks Square. We then slowly walked back through all the little lanes which have an abundance of shops, plenty of them designer but also some souvenir shops.
We stopped a couple of times at cafes beside the Grand Canal where we could enjoy our favourite drink whenever we are in Italy - Aperol Spritz.
We returned to Riviera in time for a late lunch at Waves Grill where we tried the famous Kobe beef burger. It was melt in the mouth with a fantastic flavour.
The compulsory Safety Drill took place an hour before sailing and this was attended by every guest on board.
Our dinner this evening was in Jacques, the french restaurant and although when we made the reservation we were told that we would be sharing, when we arrived they seated us at a lovely table for two by the window and we were able to enjoy all the views as we sailed away from Venice at 9pm.
My dinner was once again delicious. I had Escargots followed by fish soup with all the traditional accompaniaments. I then followed this with dover sole which was cooked whole and filleted in front of me at the table very professionally and my desert of Crepe Suzette was also lovely. Coffee and Petit Fours finished another delightful meal.
As we were now at sea for the first time the shops and casino were open and we had a little flutter in the casino before retiring for the night.
