Top Ten Cruise Ports of Call

What are your favourite ports of call to sail into? I asked some of the team here at The Luxury Cruise Company to come up with their current Top Ten cruise ports of call - do you agree? What are your favourites and why?

Scott Anderson:-

  1. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  2. New York, USA
  3. Venice, Italy
  4. Dubai, UAE
  5. Sydney, Australia
  6. Miami, USA
  7. London - Tower Bridge, UK
  8. Istanbul, Turkey
  9. Hong Kong, China
  10. Geiranger Fjord, Norway

I have chosen Rio de Janeiro as my favourite port of call to sail into as its just such a wonderful city - as you approach in the morning mist you can see the amazing Sugarloaf mountain, and as you get closer you can spot the cable car gondolas taking people to the summit, and of course Corcovado Mountain, rising out of the mist with Christ the Redeemer at the top. Then the rest of the city comes into view - really magical and a wonderful taster of what’s to come in this vibrant and colourful city.

Janet Welsh:-

  1. Kotor, Montenegro
  2. Bali, Indonesia
  3. Ketchikan, Alaska
  4. Sydney, Australia
  5. Venice, Italy
  6. New York, USA
  7. Korcula, Croatia
  8. Dubrovnik, Croatia
  9. Sorrento, Italy
  10. Monaco

I have chosen Kotor as there is a beautiful 90 minute cruise through the fjords of Montenegro to reach Kotor; it is well worth the early wake up call. As you approach the city, you can clearly see the ancient city walls that stretch for 4.5km directly above the city and the ruins of an old castle high on the cliffs - well worth the climb for stunning views.

Cathy Chesman:-

  1. Venice, Italy
  2. New York, USA
  3. Monte Carlo, Monaco
  4. San Francisco, USA
  5. Sydney, Australia
  6. Portofino, Italy
  7. Sorrento, Italy
  8. Santorini, Greece
  9. Taormina, Italy
  10. Capri, Italy

I have chosen Venice as my current favourite port of call as its incredibly pretty and full of interest. Lovely to sail into or out of and see all the crumbling pastel facades go past - even better on a smaller ship.

Jacqui Ridler:-

  1. San Francisco, USA
  2. Venice, Italy
  3. Geiranger, Norway
  4. Flaam, Norway
  5. Hubbard Glacier, Alaska, USA
  6. Seattle, USA
  7. Monte Carlo, Monaco
  8. Sorrento, Italy
  9. Split, Croatia
  10. St Thomas, US Virgin Island

Picking number 1 is hard - Venice I love every time and Geiranger is so beautiful - likewise the others (except Seattle that is there for the skyline and St Thomas I just love all the red topped houses!) However I have decided on San Francisco - cruising under the Golden Gate Bridge and sailing past Alcatraz is very exciting plus you get some fabulous photos; it is especially exciting when you know what is waiting for you when you get off the ship, San Francisco is an amazing place.

So do you agree? Tell us your favourites and we will list them here.
