Swan Hellenic Cruise Blog Day 3
I was up and out my cabin at 9 this morning to catch breakfast in the Swan Restaurant which closes at 9.30. For breakfast in the Swan Restaurant you can order hot food from the menu as well as help yourself to anything from the large selection of pastries, cereal, cheese, meats and fruit laid out on the large tables in the centre. This does works although generally onboard most other cruise lines, when having breakfast in the dining room you don’t serve yourself. Breakfast was nice, my eggs were done to my liking and the pastries were lovely and fresh. A few tweaks with regards to the level of service wouldn’t go a miss though.
After breakfast I had a lovely couple of relaxing hours up on Promenade Deck reading my book in the sunshine. During this time I popped into the Orpheus Lounge for a coffee and stumbled across the wonderful Opera Barcarola rehearsing for their performance later that evening. I took a seat and listened to their wonderful voices for as long as time would allow as I was meeting my group for lunch in the Swan Lounge at 1.
After lunch my group and I were lucky enough to have a bridge visit with Captain Giovanni Biasutti. It was really interesting and kind of him to allow us up to have a look. He talked about some of the recent refurbishments to Minerva including the new propeller. It was lovely to hear him talk so passionately about his role as a captain.
After our bridge tour we had an inspection of the galley where we met executive chef, Sebastian Gnida. Needless to say the galley was spotless, I wish my kitchen at home was kept that clean! Afternoon tea was served in the Swan Restaurant which I attended but passed on the scones.
I got talking to a lovely lady travelling on her own who couldn’t speak highly enough of Swan Hellenic, and her cruise experience so far. One of the main things that attracted her back to them time and time again was the interesting itineraries and amount of fellow single travellers onboard. She went on to tell me that she had just attended the single’s get together that Swan Hellenic had kindly arranged. As a result of this she had dinner plans for the next three evenings with fellow single ladies and gentlemen.
This evening was the Captains Welcome Party which was held in the Darwin Lounge. This was a black tie event and a chance for everyone to get dressed up, mingle and be introduced to many of the officers onboard. The champagne flowed and delicious canapés were served. This was followed by Gala Dinner served in the in the Veranda Restaurant and Swan Restaurant. We opted to dine in the Veranda with Captain Giovanni Biasutti and the Cruise Director. We were served a delicious 4 course meal followed by a night cap in the Orpheus Lounge with the Sunflower Band playing in the background.
