Super Seven Reasons to Cruise on Viking River Cruises
Viking River Cruises embarked on an ambitious new ship building plan commencing in 2012, replacing its older fleet with brand new 5-star river ships, or Longships as they like to call them. Now totalling over 50 Longships, here are our Super Seven reasons to take a river cruise on Viking River Cruises.
The new Viking Longships
The new Viking River Cruises Longships have a Nordic design, and every one is identical to the rest of the fleet. Inspired by Scandinavian architecture, the Oslo based designer, Bjørn Storbraaten, also designed the new Seabourn ships. With open spaces, light woods, a grand central atrium and back lit marble, it all adds to sense of style, topped off by a glass ceiling that allows natural light to flood the main reception area.
All the Viking River Cruises Longships have sustainability upgrades, such as on-board solar panels, organic herb gardens on the Sun Deck, and energy-efficient hybrid engines that also reduce vibrations for a smooth ride.
Alfresco dining at the Aquavit Terrace
The Aquavit Terrace is an area at the front of the ship, right at the bow, that offers al fresco dining and a great place to enjoy a coffee and snack as you watch the scenery go by. Viking’s on-board culinary offerings are designed to provide guests with regional specialties as well as American favourites. Each on-board meal is accompanied by complimentary tea, coffee, soft drinks, with complimentary wine and beer being served at lunch and dinner. Viking River Cruises guests may bring local wine on board to enjoy at meals with no corkage fee.
All your shore excursions are included on a Viking River Cruise, and depending on your itinerary you can visit many UNESCO World Heritage Sites. On the tours you are equipped with a Quiet Vox system which comprises of a receiver and an ear piece that you wear, whilst your tour guide has the transmitter. This allows you to easily hear the tour guide without have to stand close to them, and in fact you can wander off and take photos whilst still hearing the guide. There are also optional add-on tours you can purchase on board.
Viking River Cruises operates a casual dress code so no need to pack suits and posh frocks – unless you want to of courses. This adds to the amiable ambience on board.
Wifi and Infotainment
Wi-Fi is offered complimentary and perfect for keeping in touch with friends and family – but not suitable for streaming movies. In the cabins there is a large flat screen TV with the Viking River Cruises infotainment system offering on demand movies, news, documentaries and even programmes specific to the itinerary you are cruising on
