SS Antoinette Day 7
Day 7 on the SS Antoinette
Today is the last full day of our cruise, tomorrow we disembark in Amsterdam.
I had another delicious breakfast and by now we have got to know several of the waiting staff who all work exceptionally hard to serve us. Boris is proving to be the favourite. He always has a ready smile and time to chat despite being very busy. Without exception every member of staff we meet on board says ’hello’ or asks about our day ashore. They all provide a fantastic standard of care.
Today we decided not to take the tour provided but instead to walk independently along the riverside into Cologne. We went into the Cathedral which took over 600 years to build - from the original plans! We then had free time to explore Cologne at our leisure.
Christmas preparations in Cologne
Once again we could see all the preparations being made for the Christmas Markets, this is such a popular time to visit Germany. I am just sorry not to have seen them open for myself.
We returned to the boat for lunch and as the sun was shining sat up on deck to enjoy the cruise along the Rhine on our way to Amsterdam. Passing Dusseldorf was very interesting, there are a lot of beautiful buildings lining the river.
A high tea was then served in L’Orangerie with delicious scones and pastries.
Tonight is the Captain’s Fairwell Dinner. Another opportunity to dress up and enjoy a fabulous meal. Fortunately our suitcases don’t have to be left outside our cabins until tomorrow morning. So much easier than the rush to pack up on ocean ships.
I have had a lovely cruise on the SS Antoinette courtesy of Titan. I would happily recommend their cruises to anyone that enjoys very comfortable accommodation, excellent food combined with knowledgeable tour guides and the opportunity to travel through Europe the most scenic way.
