SS Antoinette Day 3
Day 3 on the SS Antoinette
Awoke early again this morning to find a thick early morning fog had descended and it was impossible to see anything from the window. I enjoyed breakfast in the main dining room. This room is so bright and cheery decorated in white and green with white trellis work and green glasswear on the table to compliment the colour scheme.
We were taken by coach from the boat at 8.30 the short ride to the canal in Strasbourg where we enjoyed a very interesting boat trip around the city, taking us past the very modern headquarters of the European Union and also by the very old Petit France area which boasted a very well preserved Medieval centre. We then had a tour of the beautiful cathedral before having free time to explore. By this time the sun was out and the day was much warmer so we decided to stay in town and enjoy lunch sitting outside in one of the large open squares.

I am very impressed with the organisation provided by Uniworld. At each place we visit every guest is given a map of the downtown area with clear directions on where to find the bus for the return journey to the ship. These shuttle buses run at regular intervals so to allow as long a time as you wish in the town or city you are visiting. This flexible arrangement works very well allowing individuals to make their day as easy or busy as they wish.
On our return to the boat we made out way to the lounge where an afternoon tea of dainty sandwiches, pastries and fruit are available every day, just in case you are hungry. Tea and coffee are available 24 hours a day, and I have to say the coffee is much better quality than I have experienced on other boats.
This evening we met as we do every evening to hear the Tour Director explain about the following days activities. He explained about optional tours which have to be signed for in advance and there is an extra charge for these. They are very popular.
Dinner this evening was a birthday celebration for one of our group so as if we had not already eaten enough, a beautiful chocolate birthday cake was presented by the Restaurant Manager accompanied by some of the waiters singing happy birthday. It was a lovely surprise for her.
In the lounge after dinner an accordion player and ’Edith Piaf’ provided the entertainment, but this time our group went to the Leopard Bar where we could continue with the birthday celebrations.
