Silversea North Cape Cruise on Silver Cloud
The cruise was great ( not sure about Murmansk!) and everything went according to plan.
The onboard credit was great thank you and we paid for some shore excursions with it. The cruise itself was really interesting. We have visited Norway before and knew what to expect with the fjords, but it is still remarkeable the second or third time around.
We had never been to the Lafoten Islands and that was a real gem. The weather was kind to us and we took advantage of a shore excursion walking up into the hills (the scenery isn't as high as mainland Norway). It was perfect.
The northen Cape was wet misty and cold! Perhaps along with Murmansk the poorest day for weather. Having said that it is fascinating to think that we were so close to the north pole! Murmansk was another story all together. Interesting in many ways because of the snapshot of life it offer from a bygone age. The buldings and industry were a grim reminder of the Soviet past, but I found it really interesting. I am glad we went but not sure I would rush back!
Archangel was a different story. They have really tapped into the traditions of the past and are trying to rebuild a pre-soviet city. I will look forward to going back in perhaps 10 years to see what they have achieved. It also helped that the weather was warm and sunny.
Silversea is a great cruiseline and the staff and fellow guests were a pleasure. The ship is due for a refit next year and it shows, but we have no complaints about the general standard or service given. So much so that we would reccommend them and certainly use them again. Hope this short review helps and once again, many thanks. Wendy
