Silversea look back at their milestones
Ultra luxury cruise operator Silversea have been celebrating a year of milestones in the build up to the operator’s 20th anniversary in 2014. Today we would like to share with you just a handful of the milestones that they have celebrated since summer 2012.
Summer ’12 - Silversea celebrate all things British!
In June 2012, passengers aboard Silver Cloud had the opportunity to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee whilst the ship was sailing within British waters. In addition a Diamond Jubilee cake, a champagne toast to Her Majesty and an exclusive Diamond Jubilee-themed dinner taking place on every ship across the fleet, Silver Cloud also put on a specially-commissioned British-themed show which included a number of hits from The Beatles. Calling at Tower Bridge on 10 June 2012, guests were treated to a rousing welcome as music from the Last Night of the Proms is played onboard followed by a special Olympic fanfare signaling the ship’s arrival. The next day guests joining Silver Cloud’s next voyage, were given a send off that is just as grand and British with a Scottish bagpiper playing from the nearby HMS Belfast and a British ’Sail Away’ cocktail party onboard that evening.
As an iconic summer for Great Britain drew to a close, Silversea were at the heart of the Olympic excitement as Silver Cloud brought guests to the prime vantage point of the decorated Tower Bridge, right alongside the HMS Belfast.
October ’12 - Silversea announce "Silver Galapagos".
October was the month when Silversea announced that Silver Galapagos as the name of their second expedition ship, due to launch in September 2013. She will be the only luxury expedition cruise ship to offer socially and environmentally responsible ecotourism to the Galapagos archipelago.
November ’12 - Silver Cloud sets sail after refurbishment
In November 2012, guests were welcomed aboard the newly refurbished Silver Cloud after she underwent a major three-week, stem-to-stern refurbishment in October. Highlights of Silver Cloud’s refurbishment included refreshed public areas, including a renewed lobby, the transformation of the Relais & Chateaux Le Champagne restaurant, and new décor for the ships’ suites in addition to the debut of The Grill, a new interactive alfresco and poolside dining concept.
Silversea rolls out Silver Privilege Fares and Guarantee Program
Silver Privilege fares are structured to make the cruise decision easier by offering guests one simple low fare for their desired suite. These new cruise-only fares reward guests who book early with the best possible fare and the privilege of being able to select their desired suite at the time of booking. These new fares are easy to understand, so consumers know exactly what they are paying for. In addition, guests will still be able to customise their entire holiday with Silversea’s optional air, transfer, hotel and land programs. With Silver Privilege fares, guests pay only for the holiday components they desire.
Silversea also introduced a Fare Guarantee Program for all voyages departing on or after June 1. With the new Fare Guarantee Program, guests are assured that when they plan ahead and book early, not only will they enjoy the privilege of reserving their desired suite, but they can also benefit from any future reduction in the Silver Privilege fares for their voyage.
March ’13 - Silversea partner with National Geographical Society
Silversea announced a partnership with the renowned Royal Geographical Society (and the Institute of British Geographers), both of which were founded almost two centuries ago in order to advance guests knowledge of geographical science.
The Society, based in London, and whose Royal Patron is Queen Elizabeth II, is partnering with leading luxury expedition cruise operator Silversea to share some of the world’s most important geographical research and archive material with guests travelling on Silversea expedition ships, including Silver Explorer and Silver Galapagos.
Silversea guests will benefit from a wide range of specialist visual and written content from the Society, enabling guests to learn even more about their expeditions to destinations including Antarctica, the Arctic, the Galápagos, South America, Africa and Europe.
April ’13 - Silversea appoint new Regional Sales Manager
This month, Silversea were delighted to announce a new appointment to its UK sales team. Amanda Middler, who has 11 years experience in sales joined the Silversea team as Regional Sales Manager with responsibility for Northern Ireland, Scotland and the North East of England, and will report to Priti Mehta, Head of Sales UK & Ireland.
Amanda joins Silversea from the IHG Hotel Group, where for 2 years she was Position Cluster Sales Manager and successfully built strong relationships within the travel sector. Prior to that Middler also worked for Monarch Airlines as Base Operations Manager and MyTravel Airways as Passenger Services Superintendent.
2014 will be a very exciting year as Silversea marks their 20th anniversary and the luxury cruise operator have designed a voyage collection that matches the special sense of excitement and celebration that they aim to share with their guests throughout the year.
Earlier this year Silversea unveiled an extensive line-up of worldwide voyages for 2014 with over 200 diverse sailings, visiting more than 500 destinations on seven continents.
