Silver Cloud ship visit in Dover
Silver Cloud ship inspection
Silversea Cruises much-loved Silver Cloud called in to the Port of Dover recently and I was invited on board to have a look around. This was the first opportunity I had to see the ship since her recent refurbishment and I have to say she is looking better than ever.
The Reception - Silver Cloud
The aim of the refurbishment was to completely renovate Silver Cloud’s interior decoration, including the suites, public spaces and dining venues, in order to introduce a fresh and contemporary classic atmosphere. Most of the work was completed during a three-week dry dock at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Palermo, Italy, and renowned Italian architect Giacomo Mortola oversaw the design and construction elements.
Silver Cloud is the luxury cruise lines original vessel, having been launched in 1994, and yet she is the most popular with Silversea’s loyal guests. Accommodating just 296 guests in all-suite luxury, she has 222 crew looking after them, providing a guest to staff ratio of 1.3 - which is very high in the luxury cruise market.

Silver Cloud Show Lounge
We all met in the Show Lounge for a brief update on the fleet, along with a welcoming glass of chilled champagne. Every seat in this multi-tiered venue enjoys a clear view to the stage, and as well as production shows and solo performances, the Show Lounge also presents port talks, enrichment lectures and a variety of special events.
Accommodation and Suites
We started our tour looking at Suite 701 - the Grand Suite. Available as a one-bedroom configuration or as two bedrooms by using the adjoining Veranda Suite, it features two teak verandas with patio furniture and floor-to-ceiling glass doors. The living room features a sitting area, with a separate dining area, and the entire suite offers 1,019 sq ft (95 metres sq) of all-inclusive luxury.

We then saw a Veranda Suite - the most popular grade of accommodation on board. These suites are 295 sq ft (27 metres sq). They feature a teak veranda with patio furniture and floor to ceiling glass doors. The bathroom has been enhanced with new flooring, marble appointments and a new walk-in, glass-enclosed rainforest shower with sitting area, offering a soothing, spa-like experience. I thought the bathroom upgrade looked fantastic and made better use of the space than the previous configuration.

Dining and Lounges on board Silver Cloud
We then made our way to La Terrazza restaurant, aft on deck 7. La Terrazza is open for casual, buffet-style breakfast and lunch with indoor or al fresco dining on the outdoor terrace.
La Terrazza - Silver Cloud
During the evening, La Terrazza transforms into an à la carte traditional Italian restaurant. La Terrazza uses buffalo mozzarella from Naples, organic balsamic vinegar and olive oil from Umbria, and air-dried ham out of Parma.

The Emilia-Romagna region also produces Silversea’s 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano, while the pasta is made daily right on board. La Terrazza’s updated interior included a remodelled buffet area and new banquettes along the walls, offering greater seating flexibility, including more tables for two.
