Silver Cloud Cruise - Nov 2010
One of the most enjoyable parts of the trip was the welcome we received and the excellent, friendly service both in our rooms and on the ship as a whole.
This really made a difference to the whole holiday. We were very glad to have chosen a smaller more intimate ship as we definitely would not have liked the mass tourism aspect of the larger cruise ships. We heard from fellow passengers who had been on various cruises that on the larger ships there are many disadvantages, such as meals served in 2 or 3 sittings, often at set tables where one was obliged to remain throughout the cruise, long queues to disembark at the various ports and everything was very commercialised and impersonal, aimed at passengers shopping on board in the shopping malls etc. We found it very pleasant to be able to choose when and where we sat at mealtimes and to be given the option of whom we would like to eat with. This way we met many interesting people and when one just wanted a quiet dinner together this was never a problem.
Our room was very spacious and comfortable and the room service was excellent. The food was very varied and enjoyable and well presented. We also liked the fact that all on-board costs were inclusive, it was very relaxing for everyone and nice not to have to sign bits of paper all day or carry money and cards around on one’s person. We also enjoyed the excursions very much and appreciated how well organised they were on the whole and especially the fact that we were always in reasonably small groups.
The on-board entertainment, lectures etc. were most enjoyable and informative. It was easy to make friends under these circumstances and although we were unsure whether we would enjoy this form of holiday we were so pleased with the experience that we booked another cruise (as you know) with Silversea whilst still on-board, which we look forward to very much. We would also like to thank you Janet for the excellent arrangements you made for us in LA and that despite our rather large amount of luggage the various transfers were pretty much hassle free.
