Seven Seas Voyager from Reykjavik June 2013

  • Name: Mr and Mrs Russell
  • Ship Name: Regent Voyager
  • Area of World: Reykjavik - Copenhagen
  • Month/Year of travel: June 2013
  • Cruise line: Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Flights and transfers - Flights idea. Vital to make own transfer arrangements, Regents are ridiculously expensive, for example - coach transfer from ship to Copenhagen Airport $119 per person ($238 per couple). Our taxi equivalent to $60 when we were ready to disembark.

Pre cruise hotels - Reykjavik Centrum: Boutique hotel in excellent central location. Far better than Regent pre cruise  hotel which was large and not walking distance to centre. Reykjavik Centrum highly recommended - very good.

Embarkation - Very good with no queues as we embarked earlier than Regent proposed 12.30 instead of 14.00. This avoided the queues which stated shortly after 13.00 when the regent coaches arrived.

Cabins/Suites - All very good. No problems. I really like the Voyager suites and layout.

Food and dining - The main Compass Rose was better than last time on Voyager, with selected dishes from the speciality restaurants a feature. New evening Italian Setti Mari was very good but extremely popular with no booking so queues. Prime 7 not that special, no 'wow' factor. Signatures was very good.

Entertainment -The shows are very good and even better now that guest artist change regularly being on-board for only 2 or 3 days. The one lecturer is good but she is the only person for about 10 months a year. A variety would be an improvement. We were off the ship during the day so can't comment on day time activities.

Public Rooms - Good variety but when cruising in the Fjords not sufficient chairs in the Observatory Lounge. When a very popular evening event in Horizons Lounge, again shortage of chairs.

Onboard Service - All very friendly and helpful.

Itinerary and ports of call - Very fortunate with the weather, Iceland scenery was even better than expected. Farofse and Alesund ok. Better to miss out Lerwick and go from Farofse to Alesund and saving a day for an extra fjord. Geiranger and Flam are 'gems'. Bergen wet, as usual, Oslo very good and better weather.

Shore Excursions - A major attraction of regent is that of the free excursions. The only problem is poor admin with the booking system and numerous 'waitlisted'. Always cleared but often not until the day before or even on the day! Tour sizes are usually 30  max, but the highest was 38 to clear waitlist.

My service - Cathy Chesman As always 10 /10 - Thank you

Overall an excellent trip. The negative comments are only concerning minor points but feedback as requested. Still prefer Regent to Silversea.
