Scenic Eclipse Keel Laying
The keel laying and coin fixing ceremony of Scenic Eclipse, the World’s First Discovery Yacht, has taken place — marking the official start of the ship’s construction.
The event took place at the Uljanik Shipyard JSC in Pula, Croatia, where the ship will be hand-built over the coming months by a team of expert craftsman.
The keel laying and coin fixing ceremony has become a rite of passage for every new ship, and the placing of a coin beneath the keel block is traditionally thought to bring good fortune to the crew and passengers when Scenic Eclipse is ready to take to the seas.
Scenic chairman and founder, Glen Moroney, was given the prestigious honour of placing an Australian coin beneath the keel.
Scenic Eclipse is scheduled for launch in August 2018, when she will begin a season of voyages to Iceland, Norway, the Mediterranean, South America, the Arctic and Antarctica.
Upon completion, Scenic Eclipse will represent a new era in ultra-luxury ocean cruising. The 6-star mega yacht offers unprecedented luxury and comfort for 228 passengers, and features 114 all-verandah suites, from the generous 32m2 Verandah Suites to the truly luxurious 247 m2 two-bedroom Penthouse Suite.
Scenic Eclipse offers a wealth of public spaces, including a choice of 10 on board restaurants, a state-of-the-art theatre, large spa and several lounge and bar areas. This luxurious environment is complemented by a near 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio.
Luxury underpins every aspect of Scenic Eclipse, and so too does adventure. From helicopters and submarines to a fleet of zodiacs, the ship excels in discovery and exploration, helping you venture beyond the horizon to experience rare moments of wonder few have witnessed before. Soar above the icefields of the Antarctic Peninsula by helicopter. Paddle close to greet rare wildlife in the Caribbean. Board a zodiac to explore the ancient seaboard caves of the Scottish Isles. And dip beneath the waves in a submarine to marvel at the wonderful marine life of the Adriatic.
