Queen Victoria - Amazing

Thank you to Captain Ian Hutley & his team on the Queen Victoria on her “Adriactic Discovery” Voyage to Cadiz, Messina, Cephalona, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Venice, Korcula, Gibralta and back to Southampton.

We embarked at Southampton, very smooth & in our cabin within 30minutes (no waiting around airports), on arrival in our stateroom a bottle of champagne was there, along with chocolates and flowers for my birthday later in the cruise on 11th August. We had same cabin as last year 1044, which was 242 square foot, bathroom compact with a shower cubicle, a welcome back card from Randy our cabin Steward. I would have loved a balcony but we were not in our cabin that much. Maybe we will get an upgrade next summer!!.

Later there was champagne Sail Away Party on deck 9 with the band Changez playing. (They are pretty good). This was our third cruise in two years on the Queen Victoria, last summer visited the Baltic, and this year the Med, I have spent my last two birthdays on the QV and she has always looked after me. Venice was the port of call this year and how wonderful that was waking up early to watch her sail in to a fabulous port, I had an amazing birthday.

There was a daily programme in our cabin each night along with a newsletter, the programme would mention shipboard information like the nights dresscode, and daily activities and nautical tip of the day. Sally Sagoe (Entertainment director) was always bubbly, cheerful and would always say hello when passing in the corridor on our deck, she hosted a TV morning show "Rise ’N’Shine (this starts from 6:00am) on the programme there would be Mr Motivator (sorry he did not motivate he would say to stretch but if you did your palms would touch the ceiling perhaps best left for the Sunrise class in the Gym).

The ship is spotlessly clean, they are clean it all day and night.

There are clean sheets and towels everyday, and the bed turned down at night. (I think my other half is expecting this now as he gave me 6 out of 10 the other day for making the bed)!!! Day two was formal night with Captains cocktail party. The food is excellent and if you did not like something the waiter would offer an alternative. We only ate a few times in the Britannia restaurant on evening early sitting 6:00am our waiters were Reye & Mark. The food is excellent and if you want more veg etc… you only have to ask.

There was someone on our table the had food allergies etc and there were special menus for him to choose from. They try and cater to everyone’s needs. After Reye left we ate in the alternative dining or Lido. There are so many place that you can eat, from Britannia restaurant (which is more formal) Lido Buffet, Lido alternative dining, Todds restaurant, Café Carinthia, Golden Lion Pub, deck bars etc…. you will never go hungry there is food 24hrs a day.

The chefs are fantastic Executive Chef Mark Oldroyd would come out and speak to guests and always cheerful with his team and passengers. The Lido Sous Chef Bir Sir ….. would come out and have a chat with us in the Lido alternative dining and when he saw us in the Lido. Well done chefs for all the fabulous food!!! (only two tiny gripes can you ask waiters to put bananas out everyday for breakfast and also Lemon & Ginger Tea) A BIG thank you goes ton the Maitre d’ Attila Verdo in the Lido Buffet and Lido fine dining, this man certainly knows how to charm and make everyone feel welcome, many staff should learn by him he always welcomes, smiles willing to please, says welcome back lovely to see you, smiles asks if everything ok.

Thank you for making my birthday special as well with the cake. I know it was very busy in the alternative dining the night we sailed out of Venice but you made my birthday special. He is a treasure and great asset to Cunard. Thank you to Attila for making the Cesar salads for everyone, it is great to see a bit of theatre in the restaurants. There is no smoking in the restaurants which is good, however I would recommend that Cunard does not allow smoking in rooms and restricts the places on deck. I had a pedicure fire & Ice treatment which I had been looking forward to as I had this last year, I booked as soon as I was on board for the next day, it was good however the girl started 30mins after the appointment booking and did not give me the full hour, however I was happy with the Coral colour that she chose. I would have booked other appointments but did not this time as I did not want to wait around. But the spa is worth a visit.

The entertainment in the evening is good, plenty to do however if you have been on the QV several times the shows are repeated, it would be good if they were changed how many times can you watch “Victoriana” We both loved the cruise so much that we have booked the North Cape on the QV for next August and also booked to go on the QM2 in October.
