Orion cruise ship rescues French sailor
This Sunday, Orion Expedition Cruises rescued a French sailor who had spent three days adrift in a life raft in the Southern Ocean, just off the coast of Tasmania.
Alain Delord, a French yachtsman was attempting a solo round-the-world voyage when he ran into trouble on Friday when the mast on his yacht broke during rough weather, forcing him to abandon ship.
Reports indicated that the Australian Maritime Safety Authority were able to drop supplies of food, water and aid to the yachtsman, however his location was too remote for a helicopter rescue operation. The cruise ship Orion was on its way back from the Antarctic when it received the distress call and made a fifty-hour roundtrip diversion to pick him up.
In a statement from the cruise line, Mr Delord is set to be in good spirits and uninjured
