Flights and transfers

Flights and transfers were arranged independently. The Flights were BA club world to Houston. Availability of food was poor. They ran out of one choice for the main dish and also ice cream early in the flight. We flew Iberia business from Lima to Madrid. Seats were much better than expected and I was able to get a god night's sleep. The food on BA club Europe from Madrid was very good, but one toilet was not working.

Pre cruise hotels.

Booked privately. We stayed at the Hyatt in Miami for one night. The location was good, but the rooms were in need of refurbishment. The hotel was not value for money.

Embarkation

Embarkation was very quick and carried out efficiently. The queue was only two people in front of us.

Cabins/Suites

We stayed in a penthouse suite, which is well appointed and has a very comfortable bed. The cabin stewardess and her assistant were very efficient and pleasant. The room was always very clean. The butler was always available, but we didn't use his services much.

Food and dining

The food on Oceania is always exceptional. We ate in the Polo Grill and Toscana several times, which we enjoyed very much. The Grand dining room and the Terrace are also very good. The Terrace in the evening has a menu based on the Grand Dining room menu but in buffet style. Waves Grill at lunch time has burgers to die for (Kobe beef and lobster and steak).

Entertainment

The quality of the evening performances was very good, but the shows themselves need updating. We have seen some of them several times and some of the songs are pre WW2. There was only one guest lecturer on geographical/historical topics and he lacked gravitas. The timing of activities meant that you had to miss some due to overlap. They also started too early on sea days. There seem to be more "selling activities" such as art auctions and jewellery shows creeping in, at the expense of activities aimed to entertain/ educate. The beginners bridge class was very good and well attended

Public Rooms

There is a good variety of public rooms with plenty of space.

Onboard Service

The onboard service was, as usual, of the highest quality. Everybody is polite, friendly and very efficient. They are a credit to Oceania.

Itinerary and ports of call

Ecuador and Peru were the most interesting ports of call.

Shore Excursions

The cost of excursions was high. Visits to rain forest areas in Panama and Costa Rica were a waste of money as we did not see any birds or animals of any significance.(We were told, after the tour, that it was the wrong time of day to see them.). The post cruise trip to Machu Pichu was fantastical and the tour organisers, Akorn Destination Management, were exceptional.
