Meet the Godmother of Oceania Riviera, Cat Cora
Since making television history in 2005 as the first and only female chef on Food Network’s Iron Chef America; Cat Cora has become one of the largest names in the culinary industry today.
Cora’s upbringing within an intimate Greek-community in Mississippi had an incalculable influence on her career, where family time was spent in the kitchen and around the table. Pursuing the advice from her famous mentor, Julia Child, Cora left Mississippi for New York where she followed her dreams and trained at The Culinary Institute of America.
After taking an apprenticeship with two renowned chefs in New York, Cora continued her culinary education in Europe where she completed another apprenticeship with two of France’s three-star Michelin Chefs; George Blanc and Roger Verge.
Upon her return to New York, Cora honed her skills as a Sous Chef at the Hold Chatham Shepherding Company before venturing out to Northern California, where she served as a Chef de Cuisine at Napa Valley’s Bistro Don Giovanni.
In 1999, Cat Cora made here television debut on Food Network’s Melting Pot before presenting a variety of shows across various television channels before being bestowed with the title of Iron Chef, where she represented Greek and Mediterranean cuisine alongside culinary scholars Mario Batali, Bobby Flay and Michael Symon. The following year, Cora took Iron Chef to Hollywood when she was paired with celebrities in a cooking competition for the primetime miniseries Celebrity Cooking Showdown on NBC.
Being an accomplished author, restaurateur, philanthropist and mother of four, Cora founded Chefs for Humanity in response to the Tsunami in Indonesia. The charity is dedicated to reducing the need for hunger worldwide by supporting humanitarian relief. Cora briefly stepped out of her chef jacket in 2012 to co-host a new cooking-series Around the World in 80 Plates; where she travelled with twelve chefs who were competing in a culinary race across ten different countries. She currently resides with her family in Santa Barbara, California and enjoys regular visits to the beach.
