Local artist to accompany Hurtigruten in Greenland
Expedition cruise operator Hurtigruten pride themselves in bringing guests closer to the local communities in a variety of destinations and now anyone visiting Greenland this summer will be accompanied by a local artist.
Greenlandic painter and musician Miki Jacobsen will be accompanying guests during the summer sailings. He will introduce the world of Greenlandic painting, national music, traditional mask dancing and stories from the world to guests aboard MS Fram, allowing them to learn more about the country's cultural history.
Born in 1965, Miki Jacobsen represents the new generation of artists in Greenland. His works reflect the country's history, culture, identity and diversity. Jacobsen's summer as an artist aboard MS Fram supports Hurtigruten's objective to show passengers at first hand the culture and tradition of the region they are travelling through. This is in addition to the existing social events that the cruise line offers including taking part in a traditional "kaffemik" (Greenland version of a cup of coffee) and visiting local school children in Uummannaq.
