Hapag Lloyd Cruises reveal new ship names
- HANSEATIC nature will set sail in April 2019 and be aimed at the German, Austrian and Swiss markets.
- HANSEATIC inspiration will make her inaugural expedition voyage in October 2019, and will cater to both German and English speaking markets.
Both expedition vessels will carry 230 guests (199 when the ships are sailing in the Antarctic) with a design inspired by nature. This is seen around the ships in the choice of materials, colours and contours of walls and surfaces. Both vessels will be rated PC6, the highest ice class for passenger ships, and will be perfect for navigating the waters of polar regions.
HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration will also feature two extendible glass balconies – extending over the port and starboard side of the ship- providing guests with the unique feeling of floating over the ocean.
HANSEATIC nature and HANSEATIC inspiration will be fitted with cutting-edge equipment and environmental technology: the hulls of the two ships will be optimised to achieve the maximum reduction in fuel consumption and a catalytic converter will reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by almost 95 per cent. Infra-Red ice detectors are a further highlight, with the infrared camera making it possible to spot ice at night and in misty conditions.
16 on-board Zodiacs and E-Zodiacs with eco-friendly electric drive systems allow for landings in remote expedition areas, regardless of the vicinity to a port. The ships will also have a marina for water sports.
Karl J. Pojer, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, said: “The potential in the expedition ship segment is more than three times higher than supply. By virtue of the comfort and luxuriousness of our state-of-the-art new vessels, we will appeal to even more customers in the luxury segment in future. At the same time, authentic, natural spectacles that convey the feeling of a personal expedition have always been the basis for our decision-making.”
“With our choice of names, we are continuing the success story of today’s HANSEATIC, retaining the popular and well-known brand name and establishing a new and separate class within our fleet.”
