First look at Europa 2
I have just been on board Hapag Lloyd Cruises, new ship Europa 2 for a two day shakedown cruise.
First and foremost I have to say - WOW - what a beautiful ship! The décor throughout has been really well thought about, maximising the light streaming in from the glass wall that surrounds the main stair case. This ship is all about light and space, and in fact has the highest space ratio of any ship at sea - 77.5. Suites are roomy and comfortable, balconies are deep enough for a sun lounger and corridors and landings are uncluttered and spacious.
Food and service are exceptional (the ship is staffed mainly by young Germans) and the evening production show we saw was innovative and daring, perfect for the international crowd that this ship is aimed at.
This ship is a game changer in the luxury 6-star market and I’m sure will prove very popular, once word gets out! Every cruise is international, with announcements in both English and German.

Europa 2 - Dining and Restaurants photo gallery
When you think of an excellent dinner on the high sea, you usually imagine a formal atmosphere and evening wear. On the EUROPA 2 this idea has, however, been re-interpreted. The basic concept of the exquisite restaurants on board is pleasantly relaxed. No strict meal times and casual dress codes. Expect culinary delights of the best standard with lots of variety; from modern, sophisticated cuisine to multifaceted Asian highlights.
There are six main restaurants on board Europa 2
- Weltmeere Restaurant serving international cuisine to 266 guests
- Yacht Club Restaurant serving international buffet to 276 guests
- Elements Restaurant serving Asian cuisine to 28 guests
- Serrenissima Restaurant serving Italian cuisine to 56 guests
- Tarragon Restaurant serving French cuisine to 44 guests
- Sakura Restaurant serving Sushi to 58 guests

The largest restaurant on board is the Restaurant Weltmeere, which is located at the stern of the ship and is characterised by its spacious room concept.

In the open Yacht Club Restaurant the sea breeze unites with the fine aroma of freshly prepared delicacies from the open cooking stations.
Elements Restaurant photo gallery
The atmosphere in the Asian Restaurant Elements is inspired by the lifestyle of the eastern regions, a symbiosis of foreign cultures. Enjoy the great cuisines of Asia - traditional Chinese in accordance with the teachings of five-element cooking, fiery hot and light or unique; in any case fresh, exotic, easily digestible and always artistically arranged.

The purist, elegant interior of the Serenissima Restaurant reflects the quality of the Italian cuisine: everything superfluous has been left away, the focus is on enjoyment. From antipasti to espresso - indulging like the Italians is a fine art.
Tarragon Restuarant photo gallery
The Tarragon with its dark pillars and benches upholstered in green is reminiscent of a charming brasserie in Paris. Here, a breath of Francophile savoir-vivre is in the air while French-oriented cuisine is served that is simple but refined in equal measure

The Sushi Restaurant Sakura awaits its guests with modern design and imperial touches. Here, the sushi master will prepare excellent nigiris, makis, sashimis, Californian-style inside-out rolls and delicious fish specialities.

A casual atmosphere, infectious sounds and a spectrum that will enthral every jazz fan. From cool jazz to easy listening - the Jazz Club on board the EUROPA 2 is an inviting venue to lounge after dinner and listen to the musicians’ repertoire, if you wish into the wee small hours of the morning.
If you prefer a quiet evening, you may wish to relax in one of the comfortable armchairs of the Herrenzimmer - with a stout rum, a substantial whisky or one of the select rarities from the wide choice of gins on board. And perhaps even accompanied by a Cuban speciality from the humidor - because here in the Herrenzimmer guests are welcome to enjoy tobacco in every shape or form.
A stylish aperitif garnished with artistic performances or a tasteful teatime with superb panoramic views - in the Belvedere on Deck 9, you have the best view the whole day long.
The legendary Sansibar with the crossed pirate’s sabres has enjoyed cult status for decades - on the island of Sylt and quite exclusively on the EUROPA 2 and her sister ship, the EUROPA. You can savour the incomparable charm of "Germany’s most famous beach bar" from morning to night. The Sansibar is a wonderful, lively place to let an eventful day gradually draw to a close and drink to a fantastic holiday. And in the evening, the DJ livens up the dance floor. Breathtaking views and invigorating sea air all included.
