Concordia investigation underway

The investigation into the Costa Concordia incident is underway.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives, are missing or injured. The Carnival-owned company has suggested that the grounding may well have been the result of human error.

Wexas managing director, Steve Allen, said: "The investigation into the Costa Concordia incident is underway and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives, are missing or injured.

Authorities now say 25 passengers and four crew members remain unaccounted for, while six people have been confirmed dead in what is being described as the industries most costly maritime disaster.

"The Carnival-owned company has suggested that the grounding may well have been the result of human error."

A company statement said: "The route of the vessel appears to have been too close to the shore, and the captain's judgment in handling the emergency appears to have not followed standard Costa procedures."

Costa said: "We are working with investigators to find out precisely what went wrong aboard the Costa Concordia.

"While the investigation is ongoing, preliminary indications are that there may have been significant human error on the part of the ship's Master, Captain Francesco Schettino, which resulted in these grave consequences."
