Celebrity Equinox Glass and Grass and Great!
Sunday I was lucky enough to be invited to have a look around the brand new Celebrity Equinox - the latest cruise ship to be launched in Southampton and in fact the only one this year. Sister ship to the Celebrity Solstice, Equinox is an elegant lady and beautifully decorated.
No garish tacky neon and over-themed rooms that are only too common on many of the new launches - all lounges were tasteful and even the atrium was classy. There was a tree suspended in a bejewelled vase in the atrium that provided a interesting view from the glass-fronted lifts - but even that looked OK! What really impressed me was the alternative dining restaurants - Murano’s, Blu, Tuscan Grill and Silk Harvest, all conveniently located off the Ensemble bar area.
The main dining room - Silhouette’s - is an amazing double height space that soars majestically and shimmers in white and silver - very tasteful, and it features a huge floor to ceiling wine cellar at one end of the room. Service was very good, waiters personable and charming, food tasty and filling.
Glass and Grass
You have to mention the grass - half a deck of actual lawn - laid out on the top deck, enabling you to picnic, play croquet or just sit on it! The "soil" that the grass was growing in was rather sandy however, and stuck to your feet a bit! The glass blowing area was a concept that I thought a bit odd when I read about it - however it has proved very popular and the pieces on display were actually rather nice so I think I’m converted! I think this ship will prove very popular with Brits - nice cabins and staterooms, quality entertainment, excellent food and service - can’t fault it really! Celebrity Equinox was named today in Southampton, by Godmother Nina Barough, CBE.
