Azamara Journey Cruise Blog Day 4
A busy day today. I had another lovely breakfast on the balcony before joining my colleagues for a three-hour business meeting to discuss our impressions of the wonderful Azamara Journey. We were all of the opinion that Azamara Club Cruises have created a unique cruising experience. Every guest that any of us have spoken to cannot speak highly enough about the quality and choice of food available in so many different venues. The standard and variety of entertainment provided puts a lot of similar sized cruise ships to shame and this is partly due to the enthusiasm and professionalism of the cruise director Eric.
Once the meeting was finished we went to the pool BBQ where all the officers had donned aprons and chef’s hats to serve us with the variety of dishes including roast suckling-pig. This was a fun experience with a lot of laughter watching them trying to work outside of their comfort zone!
I then went ashore into Trapani, Sicily where there was a small tourist train waiting just beside the ship to take us on a 45 minute tour of the town, costing 6 euros.
In all honesty it is not the prettiest Italian place that I have visited, but as the afternoon wore on and the place came to life after their traditional siesta, it grew on me a little. But speaking to some guests when I returned to the ship I was told that there is a beautiful village called Erice a short taxi ride away that was well worth visiting, maybe next time.
Returned to the ship with time for a swim in the pool, so refreshing, and an opportunity to open my book for the first time.
Before dinner our group met for drinks in the bar adjoining Discoveries. We then approached the Maître d’ and asked for ’a table for 16 please’. The look on his face was a picture but he quickly recovered and we were seated at smaller tables but all near to each other. It must be very challenging for him every evening to accommodate all requests but this is done with humour and somehow the system works. Being able to dine each evening at a time of your choice makes for a really relaxing meal rather than being given the same dining time each evening as other cruise lines do.
Following dinner we went to the Cabaret Lounge for an excellent show by one of the guest artists Jamila Ajibade who had an wonderful singing voice. She used to sing in 5th Dimension and was very well received by everyone.
Not such a late night tonight but I did manage to return $10 to the casino on my way to bed.
