Avalon Waterways are to increase the number of special interest cruises that they currently offer by more than 30% in 2014. The river-cruise operator are to add themes including beer tasting, golf, wellness and history.

The October 13, 2014 departure of the "Austrian Highlights & Bavaria" cruise will include onboard beer tastings, visits to historic breweries and lectures about European beer-brewing techniques. Golf will be the focus of the July 7 departure of the same voyage, of which will include arranged tee times on various golf courses throughout the holiday.

A new wellness cruise is to be set for the July 7, 2014 departure of "The Blue Danube Discovery". It will include onboard stretching and yoga programs in the morning, lectures on healthy lifestyles and healthy dining options. The World War I theme cruise will be on the July, 14, 2014 departure of the "Grand France" and the July 22 departure of "Paris to Normandy's Landing Beaches". These itineraries will include visits to famous war sites in addition to a series of informative and interesting onboard lectures.
