Authentic Asia on board CruiseCo Adventurer
Flights and transfers
Everything was fine with Singapore Airlines except for the baggage on our return journey. My wife and I checked in together at Saigon, but our bags were routed separately so that we had to hang around for an extra two hours at LHR waiting for the second bag. After a 14 hour plus overnight from Singapore that was the last thing that we wanted.
Sorry cannot give this a real rating as your system will only allow me to click on 10! So, I am happy to tell you that the facilities on the Cruiseco Adventurer were very good. Positively no complaints about any aspect.
Food and dining
The food was very good. Not absolutely first class which was to be expected from a little galley on a small vessel, but it met all expectations. When we were taken to hotels for lunch on excursion days, 2 of the restaurants were excellent, but the one in Saigon was poor. We have advised Cruiseco that they are not getting value for their passengers at this particular establishment.
Enough space for the number of passengers but only just. The Sun Deck was a little tired, but then it was the last cruise of a 10 month season so it will probably be refurbished over the next two months.
Can rate this because the staff were splendid - very smiley and friendly. The Cruise Director was absolutely first rate, an enormous asset to Cruiseco who turned her hand to absolutely everything. It would take a bigger box than this to list her virtues.
Itinerary and ports of call
Yes, all was as advertised. Angkor was good but overwhelmed with people - they are talking about an increase from 7 million to 20 million visitors a year by 2020 so the thought of visiting again in future years is horrendous. The cruise stops along the Mekong were a delight and very interesting and completely free of tourists - a brilliant way to see the real Cambodia and Vietnam. Saigon was a unique experience and an eye-opener but I don't think I would want to go back. One thing I would recommend to any visitor there is to do the Night Tour with Vespa Adventures - wow what an experience.
All excursions were included in the cruise price. All were efficiently carried out with good local guides whose only drawback were sometimes a lack of intelligible English. Mae up for by enthusiasm though.
