The PSA has released details of the 2012 Cruise Review of the UK cruise market, with some interesting results.

  1. Norway was more popular for UK passengers than the Caribbean
  2. 54% of UK passengers took more than 1 cruise in 2012
  3. 1 in 8 of all foreign package holidays taken is now a cruise
  4. Sales of luxury cruises increased by 30%
  5. 52 UK ports were visited by cruise ships in 2012 - a new record
  6. Some 723,000 passengers visited a UK port of call
  7. River cruise market grew by 14%
  8. 36% of all UK cruisers were first timers
  9. 443,000 UK passengers went to Northern Europe, with only 189,000 heading to the Caribbean
  10. 52% of cruises were fly cruises. 48% were from a UK port
  11. 24% of UK cruise passengers came from the South East
  12. The top reason (70%) for choosing a cruise was based on the itinerary and destination
  13. 59% of passengers booked within 6 months of departure
  14. The average price for a 2012 cruise was £1,388 pp, down from £1,434 in 2011
  15. 1,701,000 Brits took a cruise in 2012, a new record
