WHY CRUISE TO SCANDINAVIA?

Luxury cruise liners leave for Scandinavia right from your doorstep, departing from both Southampton and Dover before taking you to arguably some of the most majestic landscapes in the world. Home to vast fjords, towering snow capped mountains plunging into crystal lakes and rolling valleys, dusk at midnight and the Northern Lights phenomenon, Scandinavia is not only beautiful, but a land of astonishing affluence, making it the perfect destination for a luxury cruise. What's more, sailing to Scandinavia can be readily combined with luxury Baltic cruises so that you can also explore this fascinating and often overlooked region as well.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SCANDINAVIA

The capital cities of Copenhagen and Stockholm both have large ports to welcome travellers. As the two largest cities in the region, they are steeped in the history and culture of their respective countries and visitors can immerse themselves in the sophisticated and cosmopolitan ways of life. Copenhagen has become increasingly fashionable over recent years and is an easy city to get to know, with a thriving café culture and some fabulous architecture. Stockholm is a city made up of a number of islands, held together with bridges over waterways, earning it the nickname "Venice of the North" and making it an ideal cruise port of call.

Though, according to the locals, not technically Scandinavia, the Finnish capital, Helsinki, features highly on cruise itineraries to the area. The port itself is the heart of the city and in the summer months one of the most vibrant places in the country. Inland from the harbour, visitors can expect to be charmed by quirky restaurants and some glorious architecture.

In the region, Norway is the country that really dominates Scandinavian cruise itineraries. The large, but cosy and very pastoral capital, Oslo, is relaxed and charming and teases visitors with a taste of the country's real beauty. Around on the west coast the second city of Bergen has the welcoming feel of a small town, with friendly and helpful people. With the port itself listed as a World Heritage site and its proximity to the mighty fjord lands of western Norway, Bergen is one of the most stunning destinations in the region.

POPULAR SCANDINAVIAN PORTS OF CALL
