SS ANTOINETTE RIVER CRUISE BLOG DAY 7

SS Antoinette River Cruise Blog Day 7

Today SS Antoinette arrived in Amsterdam and enjoyed the scenery as we cruised into the city, spotting windmills and lots of farms as we slowly made our way along the river.

We were not due to arrive here until the following day, however due to the low waters and our changed itinerary we got a bonus half day in Amsterdam. The ship had organised a canal tour for all the guests and after lunch we were soon on our way enjoying the sights of the city. After our tour we joined a walking tour of the city around the red-light areas and other places before returning back to the ship. A thick bank of fog had descended on the city and it was very cold and damp – we were glad to get back to the warmth of SS Antoinette and prepare for what would be our last dinner onboard.

Summary

The SS Antoinette has a unique style to her, with elegantly appointed public rooms and innovative features. The 3D cinema onboard is a first for any river ship, and I really liked L'Orangerie and Bar Du Leopard areas – just feel it's a shame these spaces we not utilised more – of course I can only comment on my cruise experience and during the summer these rooms might be busier. The food has been good, with some nights exceptionally so. All the tours have been interesting and the quiet vox system worked well. You do have to tip at the end of the cruise and I personally would like to see this included in the fare, in-keeping with other 5-star luxury river lines.

I would also like to see room service made available to all cabin grades, and not just the suites – again more in line with other river cruise companies.

This cruise is perfect for people who want to discover the destinations around the rivers of Europe, in quality, luxurious surroundings, onboard a ship where the art of conversation is enjoyed rather than a lot of evening entertainment.

Comment My sister and I are taking this cruise (in the reverse direction) in June, so I was excited to follow your blog. I am looking forward to the trip – and the food – even more now!
