This morning SS Antoinette docked at Cologne at 6am, under grey skies. After a filling breakfast we joined the 90-minute walking tour of the city. The guides on all the Uniworld tours use the QuietVox system, where the guide wears a transmitter and the guests wear a receiver headset – this enables all guests to easily hear the tour guide and also allows for a fair amount of wandering about.
Our tour ended at the magnificent cathedral, and we spent time at our leisure looking around the amazing internal spaces and stunning stained glass windows. Back on board for lunch, and some of our group decided to make use of the ships bicycles for a quick ride along the waterfront, whilst others popped back into town for some shopping, and others stayed onboard and caught up with their blog! In front of the cathedral they were erecting the huts for the Christmas markets – again we are a few days early and it's a real shame as they look great!
We sailed at 5pm on our way to Amsterdam, and we are due to get there about lunchtime, a whole half a day ahead of schedule. In the evening we had the Captains farewell cocktail party, followed by farewell dinner. Tonight's dinner has taken over as Meal of the Cruise – I had the beef tournedos that was absolutely delicious – food worthy of a six-star cruise ship for sure. Before desert was served, all the ships crew were introduced and paraded around the dining room to rapturous applause from the other passengers and us! Then the chefs were introduced with flaming baked Alaska's in hand – a wonderful end to a delicious meal. After dinner we retired to the main lounge, and George pulled out all the stops and broke out his party tunes – there was even dancing and it turned out to be the best night of the cruise.
