On Friday 4th June, The Yachts of Seabourn invited me to embark the new Seabourn Sojourn for her official naming celebration. Once onboard there was plenty of time to explore this beautiful yacht like ship, a sister ship to Seabourn Odyssey. The ship has the same décor and room layout that has proved so popular on her fleet sister, with elegant furnishings, well designed rooms and lovely spa area.
At 6pm we all had to go up on the pool deck for the Gala Reception and Official Naming Celebration. Electro-string quartet "Siren" were on hand to provide the music and the deck was filled will all sorts of foodie treats, champagne and caviar nibbles. The weather was perfect and Seabourn Sojourn was gleaning as it came time for renowned international model Twiggy to name the ship. Twiggy stood on the deck area above the pool and said a few words before pushing the button and a bottle of champagne traversed the deck on a zip line and hurtled towards a specially prepared box where it smashed on impact.
Traditionalists say that if the bottle does not smash then the ship will have bad luck - well fortunately champers was everywhere so no worries there! The Seabourn Sojourn sounded her horns and more bottles of bubbly were opened to toast the ship naming. Then it was down to the elegant restaurant for a sumptuous meal, delivered with pride by Seabourn's efficient and charming staff. Dessert was served back up on deck, where we enjoyed all sorts of sweet treats before a spectacular fireworks display lit up the London sky. It was a wonderful evening and superbly organised - a fitting send off for a lovely 6-star yacht.

| Comment | Thank you for your comments Mr Hafbury. Seabourn Sojourn is indeed a lovely ship, with a great crew and staff too! The bottle did smash on the first attempt – I think they constructed the device to ensure it did so as to ward off the bad luck that they say bestows a vessel if it does not smash first time| |
