This morning we were woken by our pre-set wake up call on the interactive TV, a nice soft tone rather than a shrill alarm. After showering it was off to The Restaurant for breakfast. The Seabourn staff are really very, very good and we were soon offered juice, water, tea, coffee, pastries and the menus. It was time for the Seabourn Quest to take the Eggs Benedict test! I love this dish for breakfast, but some cruise ships just cannot come up with the right combination of soft but still runny egg, Hollandaise sauce and thickness of muffin. I am happy to say the chef did the ship proud! As I cut into in the egg the golden yolk was runny enough to ooze out over the bread, and not over cooked at all. It was really delicious and one of the finest Eggs Benedict I have tasted at sea.
Then it was off to the Grand Salon on deck 6 for a sales presentation from Andrew Magowan and Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing John Delaney. They covered facts and figures about Seabourn, and shared with us recent polls from a number of luxury travel publications that have rated Seabourn the highest cruise line in the luxury category for service, ships, itineraries and cuisine. At the Q&A one of my colleagues asked whether Seabourn had considered including complimentary wi-fi for its guests - and we were advised that it is something they are seriously considering. If they do go ahead with this, then they will be the only line in the world that offers free Internet and perfect for its customer base. We also learned that the average age of new-to-Seabourn guests is about 50, quite a bit younger than many of the cruise lines competitors.
After the presentation we went to Seabourn Square for a coffee. This area is where Seabourn have taken away the traditional pursers and shore excursion desks and created a social area with coffee bar, library, business centre and a number of desks manned by Seabourn staff that can help with everything, from booking shore ex, making dinner reservations, setting up ship board accounts etc. It's a great part of the ship, very social and has a great atmosphere. It is surrounded by the shops too so at sea has a real buzz about it and is certainly a focal point of the ship. The coffee bar serves all the speciality coffees and teas you could want, alcoholic drinks, and also offers a number of finger sandwiches, cakes and ice cream too! Why would you ever want to leave this place?
We are in San Remo today, anchored about a 10-minute tender ride away. It's a nice enough town, with a wonderful yachting marina and plenty of shops scattered over the hills. We wandered around for a while before returning to the ship.
Tonight we are dining in Restaurant 2, the alternative dining restaurant here on Seabourn Quest (and on her sister ships Seabourn Odyssey and Seabourn Sojourn too). This venue offers an innovative tasting menu and tonight we will be enjoying the following:-
We are due in there at 7.30 pm, and I hope we are finished by 9.30pm - show time tonight is only Lorna Luft !! Yes Lorna Luft! No Z list entertainers on here!
