So after our late night last night we didn't wake up until 10am! Hey that's what holidays are all about right? By the time we had showered we had missed breakfast so went up to the Mosaic Café for a Cappuccino and light snack before heading out to explore Trieste. Tucked onto a sliver of land where the Adriatic Sea meets Italy's border with Slovenia, this historic port proves at once indelibly Italian yet full of German, Austrian, Hungarian and Slavic influences, from its shops, churches and museums to the cafes and restaurants that line the central city.
We made our way to the Piazza Unita d'Italia in the heart of Trietse. This large town square is surrounded by elegant buildings on three sides with the city's waterfront and docks opening up to the Adriatic Sea. Buildings in the plaza include the Prefettura (Government House), the Stratti, the Muncipio, the Palazzo del Lloyd Trestino, the Caffe degli Specchi and the Palazzo Pitteri.
After a lot of picture taking we made our way along the main shopping street and stopped off at the Roman Theatre ruins, that date back to the 1st century AD, then made our way up to the St Just Castle. This castle was built between the 1400s and 1600s on the site of an ancient Roman fortification.
It was 30 degrees and really hot so we headed back onboard Azamara Quest for some more of those really good burgers! We met up with our new best friends, brothers Justin and Donavan, and enjoyed lunch and a number of beers before going down to the stateroom to start packing - can't believe its our last day today and we don't want to go home tomorrow!
On this seven night cruise myself and the other guests have consumed the following:-
And so the cruise has come to the end - we have visited some great places, spent a lot of time in port too allowing us to really explore without having to worry about getting back to the ship. Our fellow guests have all been great and we have made some new friends too! The ships staff and crew have all been friendly and the food excellent (judging by my waistline, the food has been exceptional!) There are no negatives on this Azamara Club Cruises holiday on Azamara Quest - maybe the entertainment could do with a bit of polish and modernising but other than that a very, very enjoyable holiday.
