AMABELLA EUROPE RIVER CRUISE REVIEW DAY 5

Amabella Europe River Cruise Review Day 5

Join guest blogger Simon Clifford on his few days onboard APT River Cruises AmaBella.

We docked in Passau this morning. Today was our only full day excursion, with a choice of either the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov or the 'Sound of Music' Tour in Salzburg. I had been to Cesky so headed to Salzburg instead. Now I must say musicals are not my thing and I'd never even seen the 'Sound of Music', but it was still a very enjoyable tour and only loosely based on the film, as most of it was shot at Pinewood!

The city of Salzburg is quite wonderful. Certainly the grandest small city I've ever been too. The streets are lined with baroque architecture and dominated by churches, palaces and the castle above. In 1756 city was the birthplace of the world's most famous composer Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart - to give him his full name! His home is located in the main shopping street and is now a museum dedicated to his life and work.

Our drive back to Linz where the ship was now docked took just 45 minutes, but took in some of the countries most stunning scenery. Including stops at Lakes Fuschlsee and St Gilgen, both surrounded by high mountains and picturesque villages below.
