The magical Mediterannean where the ancient world meets contemporary culture would provide me with my ultimate cruise experience, allowing me to explore the past with the modern splendours of landscape, culture and language.

Not so much a floating hotel complex but rather a floating bijou palace large enough for comfort but small emough for a community feel to abound between staff and guests, would be my choice of ship. Each cabin would have its own balcony ensuring access to the incredible sunrises and sunsets of the Med. Mood lighting within will ensure that the natural light of summer can be brought inside and reflected through the cabin to maintain the relaxed ambience. An interative travel guide is a necessaity within the cabin to allow access to all available information about destinations and the journey itself.

The usual tourist guides should be paralleled with captain’s choice and recommendations for walks, tours, what to eat and ’best views’, allowing the preparation of idividual itinerarys which could be downloaded onto mobile phones. This could include key phrases in the local language which may have been learnt during on-board basic language lessons. Views from the bridge could be viewed through a large plasma screen along with nautical information about the route.

Local cuisine must be explored to the full while on board, and of course no food is complete without an accompanying native beverage! Superb service with a smile is all that is needed to complete a fine dining experience. For all those on-shore experiences why not start with a sky view of the destination? Lift off the ship from the helipad with your personal guide who has worked with you on-board to create your personal itinerary. What better way to start your day of exploring than by soaring through the sky? Just make sure the helicopter has room for your souvenirs! Serenity on the sea is what I seek...
