My Dad who has been dead for almost 20 years loved boats and fishing. When I was a child he used to take me, my sisters and brother together with my Mum and Grandfather on boating trips on Lough Foyle in Northern Ireland.
How we loved our time together as a family cruising down the river, stopping for picnics, fishing for fluke (the local name for flatfish) with handlines and exploring the shores of the Lough. These were very happy times and I have many great memories. This would be my ideal cruise alas now impossible to recreate - a far cry from the Queen Mary 11 - Dad’s vessel was a small punt with an outdoor engine!!!
