The “White Swan” graces the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea. It is truly beautiful – a gem amongst gems. For a moment or two I can only stare at it in awe. Then I remember that I can actually board this incredible vessel and begin an experience of a lifetime. I walk up the ramp and am greeted warmly by the smartly dressed staff - all with smiles on their faces and firm handshakes. Given a glass of champagne, I sip it; savour it, before being directed to my cabin – the likes of which I have never seen before. I have opted for an outside cabin with a balcony – the perfect choice I think. A peaceful place to drink in the tangerine sunset and lemon sunrise for the duration of my stay.
Now I just have to explore this ship. It is more than magnificent and presents as elegant and graceful. Surrounded by exquisite craftsmanship and ornate design I run my fingers down the polished banisters in which I can view my reflection as if they were mirrored. Gleaming marble adorns the floor and curved staircases lend an “olden day” touch to the beauty and luxury offered. It reminds me of Titanic and I would not be surprised to see Jack Dawson or Rose DeWitt Bukater walking toward me at any minute. Sophistication and panache is everywhere I turn. People are cheerful and in high spirits. Excellent surroundings make you feel that way. I know, I can not wipe the smile from my own face and I survey the wonderful surroundings and anticipate the next two weeks before me with childlike eagerness.
Outside there are inviting expanses of open deck. Miles of jogging space for those who wish to keep fit. In addition, it is possible to take full advantage of the excellent gymnasium and spa provided for the use of all guests. Three huge swimming pools are also available for our exclusive use whilst on board. There is one dedicated to those less energetic guests whose one wish is to relax and float in perfect harmony with the gently rolling sea on which we travel. Another, geared towards younger people perhaps, offers an exciting wave machine and fountains galore. The third provides the opportunity to surf.
I love this – a real challenge. Who would think this would be possible whilst in the middle of an ocean? The food is perfect too, a dish for every culinary taste. Service is with a smile and the piece de résistance is dinner at the Captain’s table. He is of course distinguished and handsome. His conversation is witty and charming and he makes each and every one of us feel important and knowledgeable. Entertainment is of a premium standard of course. Two cinemas provide the latest films throughout the day and night. Singers, dancers and other performers take to the numerous stages in the twilight hours and fill the time after dinner and before late night cocktails with music and movement.
This is an experience everyone should have. There is nothing better than going to sleep in one place and waking up another. An adventure in itself but made all the more desirable by being aboard the “White Swan” gracing the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea
