I would set sail from my hometown , the historic city of Glasgow, a place with ship building in its blood. In an homage to student days when the world still seemed immense and so full of possibility, I would travel onward around the Iberian Pennisnsula. Having basked in Mediterranean sunshine and bid "adios" to what might have been, I head off to Dublin where my ancestors left home behind in search of a better life. With an ice cold Guiness in hand, as so many Scots and Irish before me, I would cross the Atlantic hopeful, and willing journey's end.
