Four elegant, yacht-like ships, Silver Cloud, Silver Wind, Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper, provide guests with the highest standards of all-suite accommodation and sublime service that is both refined and relaxed. Prince Albert II is the newest member of the fleet, with an ice-rated hull and an uncommon level of luxury like no other expedition ship afloat.

Scheduled to join the fleet in late 2009, Silver Spirit will offer the distinctive luxuries and celebrated lifestyle Silversea guests adore, plus enticing enhancements including a new supper club, an Asian-themed restaurant, an expanded spa and the largest suites in the Silversea fleet. With an accent on space and privacy, the atmosphere is one of unhurried elegance.

On a Silversea cruise, the options abound. Whether your desire is to completely unwind with indulgent spa treatments at Silversea Spa, or getting your adrenalin racing in the complimentary fitness classes, by day the ship is alive with options. By night, the music in the bar beckons or perhaps you crave the thrill of the casino, or to take in a show.

Our signature cruise aboard Silver Shadow explores the wildlife-rich islands and iceberg-filled fiords of Alaska. You will finish at Vancouver Island, from where a post-cruise extension on the legendary Rocky Mountaineer is highly recommended.

The basics

Silver Shadow and sister ship Silver Whisper are slightly larger than the Cloud and the Wind, and entered service in 2000 and 2001 respectively. They both carry 382 guests, with a crew to passenger ratio of 1:1.3 and a very high space ratio of 72.8.

We like

We really enjoyed the classical pianist and singer in the main show lounge, as well as the pianist in The Bar – a great place for a pre-dinner cocktail or an evening drink. Do book in for an evening meal at Le Champagne, there is a small cover charge and the food and service are out of this world. Veranda Suites are spacious, and the beds very comfortable with cosy duvets and even a pillow menu to choose from.

What you should know

The atmosphere and ambience on board is hard to put into words – after a day or two you become seduced by the pampering, the first-class service and the warm hospitality. Beware when you reach a port of call it may be hard to leave the ship.

May we suggest

The Silver Shadow was the first of the fleet to have the spa area upgraded and it is well worth a visit, for both ladies and gentlemen (the new spa concept has since been added to all ships). Treatments are varied and affordable. We would suggest you book early as they can get quite busy on nights and days at sea.
