Over 160 years ago, Samuel Cunard set out to deliver mail across the Atlantic, little realising he was taking the first step towards setting a new standard in luxury travel. Since then, Cunard has become a byword for comfort, style and the ultimate travel experience as defined by successive eras. Today, Cunard continues to celebrate its golden heritage while at the same time pushing the boundaries of modern luxury.
Quintessentially British, Cunard cruises explores the world in all its rich diversity. Impeccable service defines and differentiates the Cunard experience. On Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, nothing is too much trouble.
From the moment you step aboard, the constant priority is to make you feel welcome. In fact, matching your expectations instinctively is what Cunard cruises does best. British officers uphold the highest standards.
Queen Mary 2’s lavish Queens Grill accommodations are unrivalled at sea. From the full bottle of champagne and sugar-iced strawberries greeting you upon embarkation, to the personal butler service (including packing & unpacking) and access to private lounges, the Queens Grill experience is one to be savoured. Guests dine at a reserved table in the single-seating Queens Grill restaurant, and enjoy en suite dining from the Queens Grill menu – plus a variety of exclusive amenities.
Queen Mary 2’s Princess Grill accommodation offers elegant comfort and personal service. Guests enjoy access to private lounges and Cunard’s Grills concierge, and dine at a reserved table in the single seating Princess Grill restaurant – plus a variety of exclusive amenities.
Queen Mary 2 was launched in 2004 and is the largest liner in the world, at 148,528 tonnes. She can carry 3,090 guests and 1,254 crew. Once you board, you are greeted by white-gloved stewards who show you to your stateroom – very traditional and in keeping with Cunard heritage.
Stateroom sizes are good and like her two sisters, Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Victoria, there are three grades of accommodation – Britannia, Princess and Queens Grill. The grade of cabin you book determines where you dine, with Britannia guests dining in the two-sitting Britannia restaurant. Food in the Britannia is excellent, and served promptly by charming waiters. The two-tiered dining room is very grand with a mural dominating one wall, however it does not seem so large once you are seated, thanks to clever design and tiered seating levels. Princess and Queens Grill guests dine in their respective restaurants too. Queens Grill dining is an event all to itself, with Waterford crystal, Wedgwood china and silver service.
We like We would recommend you make a reservation at the Todd English restaurant on deck eight – well worth the cover charge (book early as it is very popular). Also a must-see is the Planetarium, and the expansive Canyon Ranch Spa Club. Also enjoy the Vueve Clicquot Champagne bar and people watching in the grand lobby.
It takes a day or two to relax into the voyage – Queen Mary 2 is a big ship and it takes a while to find your way around. But by day three you’ll be seduced by her charm, sophistication and excellent service.
For a relaxing evening aperitif or post-dinner drink, we suggest the Commodore Club bar up on deck nine – it’s a bit out of the way and not many guests go there, but has a great atmosphere.
We would recommend Queen Mary 2 for people and families looking for a traditional transatlantic crossing but on a ship with modern facilities and plenty of amenities. In the winter she sails from New York to the Caribbean – we would recommend this for honeymooners, and younger (or young at heart) cruisers as well as sun-seeking families.

Queen Elizabeth embarked on her maiden voyage in Autumn 2010. She recalls the rich heritage of Cunard’s first ship to bear the name, with classic and contemporary charm.
Queen Mary 2 lays claim to being the grandest ocean liner ever built. In all, there are 14 decks on which guests relax and unwind, each filled with opulent dining rooms, ballrooms, theatres and lounges.
Queen Victoria joined the Cunard fleet in 2007 as the second largest Cunard ship (after Queen Mary 2) ever built. She matches the very qualities that gave Cunard its name.
