A river cruise along China’s formidable Yangtze River will often begin with a few days of visiting a number of cultural highlights that the rest of the country has to offer including those in Beijing, Xian and Shanghai. It will then be time to head over to Chongqing to board your luxury river cruise ship and set sail on a discovery of the roots of Chinese civilisation.
it is likely that your first port of call will be Fengdu, from where you will be able to explore the underground limestone labyrinths of Snow Jade Cave before continuing to Shibaozhai to tour the twelve storey temple dating from the Qing Dynasty. Soon it is back to the present day as you explore the Three Gorges Dam before touring the spectacular Xiling Gorge, the longest of the three. The next stop on a Yangtze river cruise is the Dongting Lake, which is the second largest body of freshwater in China and is home to the impressive Yeuyang Tower and pavilions.
At the end of your Yangtze River cruise, we suggest a visit to Suzhou, known as “the Venice of the East”.
